Wittmann Battenfeld UK Services – Depth and Breadth Supplied

Wittmann Battenfeld (WIBA) UK Service Manager Mark Matthews reports a widening and expansion of the company’s service skill sets this year in order to help put WIBA customers ahead of the technical curve.

“We are fortunate in that Wittmann designs and engineers most everything required for today’s successful injection moulding cell,” says Mark. “Consequently we are in demand for skills and services in addition to the core moulding process, namely in materials handling, temperature control, materials reprocessing and also a wide variety of automation issues.”

Very often this means that WIBA UK service engineers are successfully mixing and matching different kind of equipment: Wittmann linear robots, for example, are designed to partner with any kind of injection moulding machine. “Our service engineers fit, supply and service all kinds of Wittmann automation throughout the UK and Ireland,” says Mark.

Naturally enough, however, the advantages of the company’s SmartPower, EcoPower MacroPower are part of the service agenda. Industry 4.0, Wittmann 4.0 and integrated manufacturing solutions are also increasingly featuring in the WIBA UK service mix, with many forward-looking moulders looking to take their production to the next level.

“Our partnership with TEMI on Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) will increasingly become part and parcel of our service engineering mix for customers,” says Mark.

All of these service needs, he notes, are increasingly being supported under the umbrella system of an annual service contract. Says Matthews, “a regular monthly service can not only save a considerable amount of money and call out fees but can also forestall and pre-empt many production problems from arising.

“In addition WIBA UK engineers are also able to offer equipment training and software support at regular and planned sessions – and often to new personnel within moulding customers.”

Matthews is an experienced veteran of the injection moulding sector, having held roles in production and processing with such names as Linpac, Hella and Owen Mumford and as well as service roles with suppliers such as Krauss Maffei, Engel and Boy.
