What Is PlastikConnect?
Despite the plastics industry being one of the UK’s largest manufacturing sectors, with an annual turnover of £27 billion, we only really gather together one or two times a year at events such as the PIA’s.
Even industry exhibitions like Interplas are attended by our international friends, which, while it’s brilliant for us to network and communicate when you have an urgent question on a particular material and a shot weight, you want someone available to ask there and then – someone working on a similar machine to you, or maybe even someone who specialises in materials.
This is where the idea for PlastikConnect was born, initially to get all of our Partners together to socialise and network. The idea developed into an industry-specific online platform for our reputable and trustworthy PlastikCity Partners to gain knowledge and work with each other, with plans to host regular in-person events.
The Social Network from PlastikCity
Think of PlastikConnect as a variation on LinkedIn, only without the unsolicited sales pitches, endless spam messages, and annoying posts from “influencers” telling you that if you aren’t getting up at 3am and driving a Ferrari, you aren’t working hard enough.
You, and everyone working for a PlastikCity partner company, can log in and begin interacting with fellow UK & Ireland plastics aficionados. We’ve set up a number of different forums that we hope will cover all areas of interest:
Announcements & Community Rules – Like all social media platforms, we have rules, it would be great if all visitors could have a quick read-through.
Additive Manufacturing – If you want help or advice on buying a new 3D printer or finding new material, post your questions here.
Business Resources – For if you have HR or legal questions or need advice on training, grants, accreditation and more.
Events – Details on upcoming events such as Interplas. Also, for partners to post about their own upcoming events and open houses.
General Discussion – If you’re new, use this forum to introduce yourself! Also, the ideal place for any non-industry news, such as charity appeals or personal achievements.
I’m looking for… – Need a new piece of equipment? Or a new perspective on a process? Ask if a community member can help!
Industry 4.0 & Digitalisation – The place to come if you want help or advice on learning the difference between MRP, ERP and MES…
Materials – Polymers? Compounds? Additives? Need help choosing a material for your product? Ask for advice!
New Products & Initiatives – Got a new product about to launch? Maybe you want to get some feedback before you go live? Ask the community!
Processing & Troubleshooting – Experiencing an issue with a mould or machine? Maybe someone in the community will have the answer.
Sustainability – Recycling, the circular economy, energy efficiency, green-washing. Share your experience and ideas here.
Videos & Marketing – Need help with a social media post? Or perhaps you want more information on how things like SEO work for businesses. Ask away!
How will PlastikConnect Benefit My Business?
PlastikConnect aims exactly as it sounds, to connect the UK & Irish plastics industries. We want everyone to feel involved and invested in the future, passionate about defending against the criticism we get for manufacturing plastics while advocating for responsible recycling and re-using.
There are many benefits of joining the community, chiefly that it’s included in your PlastikCity membership, so there are no additional fees. Plus, keeping the platform exclusive to partners means that all members are from high-quality, UK-based companies. This allows you to feel comfortable posting without any fear of irrelevant comments or unsolicited messages. Our admin team will be on hand if you feel the need to report a member for breaching our community rules.
We plan to create a range of content that can be exclusively accessed on PlastikConnect, such as marketing tips and tricks, business & HR advice, and even a podcast series. We want to make sure that the community benefits everyone within the business – from the machine operators to the moulders, to the sales & marketing teams, right the way up to the managers and directors.
Our in-person events will be a mixture of business networking and fun, social activities – we’re open to suggestions on these. Still, the first ones we’re looking to arrange include a breakfast meeting, a barbeque and an activity day.
