UNTHA Reports Record Financial Year

UNTHA shredding technology GmbH, an Austrian manufacturer of industrial shredders, has achieved a new record in the company’s 50-year history, with sales increasing to around €70 million during the past financial year.

While 52 new employees joined the company headquarters in Kuchl/Salzburg in 2021  – the Service Competence Center was moved to a new location and the logistics centre was expanded.

Alois Kitzberger, CEO of UNTHA shredding technology, said: “Together with our excellent team, we not only mastered the challenges of the past year but used the opportunity for growth.

“We will continue to invest in our staff, our site, and in R&D. As quality leaders in shredding technology, there is no doubt that we will continue on the path of innovation, customer focus and absolute reliability.”

During the past financial year, the shredding specialist achieved a turnover of approximately €70 million – an increase of €10 million compared to the previous year and a new record in the 50-year history of UNTHA.

The company has an export rate of around 90%. All shredders are developed, manufactured and assembled at the Kuchl site. Over 400 units were delivered to customers in a wide range of industries during the past year, many of them bespoke solutions for special materials and customer requirements. The percentage of in-house manufacturing for UNTHA shredders lies at 80%, in line with the company’s commitment to products “Made in Austria.” The machines are used worldwide, for instance in the recovery of recyclables, the processing of residual and waste wood, and the reprocessing of waste to produce alternative fuels. UNTHA thus makes an important contribution towards a sustainable recycling economy, protecting resources and minimising waste.

Investments in the team and the site

Strong demand has also led to growth within the team: 52 new positions were filled at the Kuchl site in 2021, bringing the total number of employees up to 250.

Investments were also made in the infrastructure and facilities, such as the logistics hub and the Service Competence Center, which was moved to a new site entirely and given a makeover in the process. The centre now offers 850 m² for support engineers and the spare parts and repair service. With 30 employees on hand, customer concerns are resolved quickly and with a high level of expertise.

Innovative shredder technologies

In addition to the development of new and existing shredders, UNTHA shredding technology is also pushing the digital cross-linkage of its machines.

UNTHA GENIUS is an intelligent condition monitoring tool that evaluates all shredder data in real-time. This software solution keeps customers informed of all the important processes and sends decision support directly to their smartphone, tablet, or PC. Precise condition monitoring makes it possible to optimise products and plan maintenance activities proactively. The UNTHA shredding experts are planning to add even more potential applications to UNTHA GENIUS in 2022 and will also launch the digital customer portal “MyUNTHA.”
