Plastek UK Announces Innovative Collaboration for Carbon Neutral Plastic Packaging

The team at Plastek UK are delighted to announce an exciting collaboration project, working with Broadway, Plastribution and UBQ™ Materials to transform plastic packaging into a carbon-neutral, or even carbon-positive process, using UBQ™’s bio-based thermoplastic material.

UBQ™

By converting organic household waste into sustainable bio-based materials, UBQ™ is a novel climate-positive innovation that can be used for the manufacturing of thousands of products. It is clean, sustainable, cost-effective and recyclable.

Through a proprietary process, the mixed waste stream – containing organic elements like food waste, garden trimmings, paper, cardboard, nappies, dirty plastics, and packaging materials – is converted into an entirely homogeneous composite material (UBQ™) that can be utilised by industry.

UBQ™ is a thermoplastic and climate-positive material that can be used to make everyday durable end-products more sustainable and with a reduced carbon footprint. It can substitute plastics, minerals and wood in thousands of different applications.

For every ton of UBQ™ Material used, up to 15 tons of CO2(e) is saved.

Plastek UK are the first UK company to process this new material in a range of colours and the first company globally to achieve thin-walled applications. Manufacturers are now able to transform plastic packaging to be carbon neutral and even carbon positive thanks to this new innovation.

If you would like more information of how this could potentially transform your packaging portfolio using ground-breaking sustainable materials, please get in touch with Steven Rolfe or Derek Woodruff.
