Pentagon Welcome First Undergraduate Placement Student
Pentagon Plastics continue to build on its history of supporting young people in education, as it welcomes its first-ever Undergraduate Placement Student, on a 20-week placement as part of his Product Design Degree.
Pentagon Plastics has long been supporting young people in education through work experience initiatives, factory tours and school networking. Pentagon’s continued efforts of support to schools, colleges and universities were recognised in spring 2019 when the company received the prestigious Investment in Young People Award from the Sussex Chamber of Commerce.
2020 sees the Pentagon Group take their level of educational support to the next level as they welcome their first-ever Undergraduate Placement Student.
As part of his four-year Product Design Degree at Bournemouth University, Conor is required to seek a graduate placement for the 3rd year of his course. Having already completed 9 weeks with another manufacturing business, Pentagon is proud to be providing Conor with a further 20-week placement.
Throughout his time with Pentagon, Conor will be working closely with the in-house design team, looking at both product and tool design as well as becoming more familiar with the plastic injection moulding process and the overall business operations.
Conor, Product Design Student from Bournemouth University, says; “I’m very pleased to have started my work placement at Pentagon Plastics. I hope to further develop my industrial knowledge through Pentagon, where I will be able to work with clients and see first-hand the complexities of the manufacturing process. From initial design through to product manufacture, testing and quality control. This will allow me to improve my understanding of design for manufacture, which will aid me in developing transferable design skills to use across the design industry.
“Design is a way of thinking that entails overcoming a verity of problems on a day to day basis. I enjoy the challenging nature of turning thought into something tangible, as it requires creative, precise, thought-through solutions in order to achieve an end product that all parties are happy with.”
Pentagon aims to give Conor a full and valuable working experience and are delighted that Pentagon is able to offer this advanced level of educational support.
