PCE Group Commits to ‘Earn and Learn’ by Joining the 5% Club

The PCE GROUP has showcased its commitment to developing its people by joining The 5% Club, an industry-led initiative focussed on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.

By joining The 5% Club,  the PCE GROUP aspire to achieve 5% of their workforce, in ‘earn and learn’ positions (including apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formalised training schemes) within five years of joining.

The 5% Club, initiated by Leo Quinn CEO of Balfour Beatty in 2013, is a movement of more than 300 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers. Companies joining The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report. Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover several diverse industries, from engineering through to the legal sector.

All members of the PCE GROUP are aligned with local education providers, to offer opportunities to the engineers of tomorrow.  PCE Automation, in particular, have signed the Youth Pledge through the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.  The scheme promises that every young person, between the age of 16 and 24 in Norfolk and Suffolk will be given the opportunity to obtain an apprenticeship, training, work experience, or a suitable role, within three months of leaving education or employment.

We have provided apprenticeship opportunities for over 30 years, with a vast proportion of our current workforce comprised of former apprentices, who have committed their long term future to PCE.  Our David Nolloth is a prime example of an apprentice who has grown with us, to become a Director of the business, so we are fully committed to providing an opportunity for people to progress with us”, commented James Cook MD.

The PCE vision aligns with that of the 5% club, in that we wish to continue providing the ‘earn and learn’ opportunities for the workforce of tomorrow; working collaboratively to engineer a bright and secure future through automation.  We also aspire to boost our local and national economies;  helping to position the UK as world-leading workforce” James concluded.

Lady Cobham, Director General of The 5% Club, said, “We’re delighted to welcome the PCE GROUP into membership. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR professionals, sharing and learning from each other.  All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes, helping people develop meaningful career paths.
