“Any Colour You Like”: How ENL Group’s New Paint Plant is Changing the Look of Their Products

ENL Group has invested in a new paint plant at it’s Portsmouth factory. The new equipment includes two advanced spray booths, a self-contained mix room and a new Romer Stove Oven.

Henry Ford famously promised his customers, “Any colour you like. As long as it is black.”

The world has come a long way since the early days of the automotive industry. Customers are all used to having choices in everything they do, from endless box sets to stream, to dozens of types of olive oil on supermarket shelves.

At ENL, they are committed to giving customers a similar range of choice when it comes to the colour and finish of their components.

Clearly, their expertly engineered plastic components already come in a range of colours introduced during the moulding process. However, if customers require a high-end finish for their products, for instance, components for a car dashboard, then the team need to do something slightly different.

Late last year, ENL realised that they were getting more and more enquiries from customers in industries like aerospace, defence, and automotive, who required high-end finishes for their plastic components.

This is a service that they have always offered, but without the facilities in-house, they were previously reliant on trusted subcontractors to deliver specialist painting services.

They delivered goods of the required quality, but the problem was that the team was not in control of the process. That meant that when it came to issues like pricing, lead-in times, and quality control, ENL was not in the driving seat.

As a business committed to quality in everything that they do, ENL realised that it was the right time to invest in some new state-of-the-art equipment that would ensure that its customers could access an end-to-end service where they were able to meet all of their requirements.

That is why, late last year, ENL purchased a range of state-of-the-art equipment and opened up a new specialist paint plant at its Portsmouth factory.

This new paint plant is set to deliver a range of customer benefits. The purchase of two advanced spray booths and a self-contained mix room now means that they enjoy full control over the painting process. The Italian CMC booth, with its cutting-edge technology and touch panel control, ensures the precise application of enamel paints on various materials such as metal, polymers, and carbon fibre. This level of control guarantees consistent and flawless results, meeting the high-quality standards that our customers expect. Additionally, the new Romer Stove Oven is capable of reaching temperatures up to 230°C, ensuring the durability and longevity of painted parts.

With in-house expertise in priming and top coat painting, ENL can now supply painted parts that look not only great, but also provide superior protection against environmental factors and wear. By employing advanced techniques and utilising high-quality enamel paints, their painted components demonstrate exceptional resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and UV radiation.

And it is not just quality that is enhanced through ENL’s new facilities. The service that customers receive has been strengthened too. Because they are now in control of the entire process, they are able to manage costs, guarantee lead-in and delivery times, and develop bespoke solutions in partnership with customers.

This new paint plant solidifies ENL’s position as a go-to supplier for the automotive, defence, and aerospace industries. It is just the latest example of the business investing in cutting-edge equipment to ensure that they can meet the customer needs of tomorrow as well as today.

ENL has built its reputation as a leading UK plastics business on the principles of quality and trust. Its new state-of-the-art specialist paint plant will strengthen that reputation, increasing ENL’s ability to handle complex projects and deliver consistently exceptional results.
