ENGEL to Show e-speed Thin Wall Injection Moulding Machine at UK Exhibition

ENGEL UK will be exhibiting a host of exciting technologies for injection moulders at Interplas 2023; not least a ‘first’ of particular interest to the packaging industry.

A newly developed e-speed injection moulding machine, revealed at K last year, will be on display. This machine is capable of producing thin-walled containers made of recycled material (rPET) in a single injection moulding step.

In cooperation with partners ALPLA Group, Brink and IPB Printing, ENGEL presents a quantum leap for the packaging industry.
Featuring a wall thickness of 0.32, the transparent, round 125ml containers represent a whole genus of packaging, especially in the food industry. Thanks to integrated in-mould labelling (IML), the containers are ready for filling as soon as they leave the production cell. The special feature in this application is the material. The thin-walled containers are produced directly from rPET in a single step.

Injecting at 1400 mm per second

The modified rPET being processed at Interplas 2023 comes from drinking bottles recycled in the plants of packaging and recycling specialists ALPLA Group, headquartered in Hard, Austria. Other partner companies involved in the show exhibit are Brink (Harskamp, Netherlands) for the mould and IML automation and IPB Printing (Reusel, Netherlands) for the labels.

An ENGEL e-speed 280/50 injection moulding machine is the heart of the production cell. ENGEL specifically developed this hybrid machine with its electrical clamping and hydraulic injection units for the high-performance requirements of thin-wall injection moulding. At Interplas 2023, ENGEL has once again boosted the power of this machine series. The new high-performance injection unit achieves injection speeds up to 1400 mm per second at a maximum injection pressure of up to 2600 bar when processing small shot weights with an extreme wall-thickness to-flow path ratio. This makes it the most dynamic injection unit on the market worldwide.

To process rPET, ENGEL combines the new injection unit with a plasticising unit from in-house development and production specifically designed for processing recycled material. During plasticising and injection, the viscosity of the PET is configured for thin-wall injection moulding. The new ENGEL e-speed supports the processing of arbitrary recycled materials up to one hundred percent rPET.

Not just about the sale

Customer Service, Energy Efficiency and Digital Solutions that support their customers in achieving their targets and increasing profitability will feature heavily on ENGEL UK’s stand at Interplas 2023.

Expert Corners, similar to those visitors to last year’s K Show will remember, will be a feature. Staffed by ENGEL experts in their fields, together with familiar UK faces, injection moulders can chat through their particular pressure points and discover how the different aspects of ENGEL technology can help them.

Digital Solutions are becoming increasingly important to help injection moulders utilise the full potential of their injection moulding machines and sustainably reduce their carbon footprint. ENGEL‘s digitalization strategy perfectly aligns with the life cycle of our customer’s products, from part design and mould sampling to production and, maintenance & service.

The team look forward to welcoming everyone to Hall 3A AA11/AA10 during the show. Still, if commitments are going to prevent you from attending, we are always on hand either virtually or to visit to discuss your particular areas of interest.
