Boddingtons Establishes Advanced Twin Shot Moulding Cell
Medical device manufacturer Boddingtons has won an order from a leading UK OEM healthcare company for the volume production of insert-moulded syringes.

A new ENGEL 160t electric injection moulding machine together with a 6-axis KUKA robot forms part of the investment in the new production cell at Boddingtons.
An 8 + 8 mould 180-degree rotating mould tool is deployed in the twin shot part of the ENGEL machine and a total of four mould tools have been made by Boddingtons on behalf of the OEM client.
The new production cell will primarily manufacture syringe devices that will be used in applications for ocular healthcare. The main body of the syringe is moulded in medical grade polypropylene and a TPE based plug is then inserted into the syringe tube.
Boddingtons has proven its medical manufacturing flexibility throughout 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic. Boddingtons continues to design and manufacture new products and components in relation to Covid-19 as well as increase its sales in traditional med-tech and healthcare markets.
Recent investments – in Class 7 cleanroom expansions; in the Mitutoyo Quick Vision Active CMM machine and in the universal MDSAP medical quality qualification – underline the company’s commitment to global medical manufacturing.
Boddingtons will be exhibiting at both Interplas and Med-Tech Innovation Expo, taking place at the NEC, Birmingham from 28-30 September and then again at Medica Compamed, Düsseldorf from 15-18 November.
