Antimicrobial Solutions Specialist BioCote to Join Key Players from the UK Plastics Sector at Plastics Live
The plastics industry is ever-changing, with new products, applications and material innovations emerging all the time. As one of the market-leading companies operating within the plastics industry, antimicrobial solutions specialist BioCote is proud to be an exhibitor and one of the launch partners for Plastics Live, an all-new exhibition and conference at the Coventry Building Society Arena taking place on 5-6 July 2022.
This new annual event for the UK & Ireland plastics sector will bring together key players across three co-located events: Sustainable Plastics Live, Additive Manufacturing in plastics (AMPLAS) and Industry 4.0 in Plastics.
Proud members of the British Plastics Federation, BioCote’s Managing Director, Technical Manager and other antimicrobial specialists will be on hand to explain the benefits of antimicrobial protection for plastic products by showcasing its market-leading technology. On stand B10 they will be showcasing the technology through a variety of product applications made possible by their network of trusted partners, some of whom include Alpha Designs, Chilly’s, Deb Group, Tommee Tippee, Polypipe, Rosewood Pets and Waterlogic. Having years of experience of working within the plastics sector, BioCote takes pride in their technology being recognised for its quality, traceability and credibility all around the world.
BioCote supplies a range of antimicrobial additives, including silver, zinc and organic compounds, as well as combinations such as silver/zinc blends. Working without an off switch, BioCote technology has demonstrated an 86% reduction in microbes in only 15 minutes and a 99.99% reduction in 24 hours. The technology has been proven effective against a multitude of commonly found bacteria and other microbes such as MRSA, E. coli, Salmonella or Campylobacter, to name a few.
BioCote’s antimicrobial additives can be easily and cost-effectively integrated into a wide variety of polymer materials, formulaitons and polymer blend during manufacturing without affecting the colour or mechanical properties of the material. They are available in concentrated powder or masterbatch pellets to suit the manufacturers’ moulding or extrusion process.
BioCote offers an extensive variety of antimicrobial additives for engineering plastics (such as PC/ABS blends, Nylon PA 6, PA 66, PBT, PC, PMMA, POM, TPU) and commodity polymers (such as ABS, PS, HDPE/LDPE, PP, PVC). In addition, the company has capability to create additional, bespoke polymer-specific masterbatches to meet the needs of its clients.
Designed to have antimicrobial efficacy at low dosage rates, BioCote’s powder and masterbatch additives do not affect the overall structure of a polymer. This means, if a polymer is recyclable, the addition of BioCote will not influence its recyclability. What’s even better, once incorporated into a product, BioCote’s additives work continuously to protect against odour formation, staining and material degradation caused by microbes. This ultimately helps to prevent early product failure and can reduce the output of resources in manufacturing due to there being fewer, but better quality, products being made – a shift from quantity to quality that is key to progressing towards sustainable production.
Plastics Live 2022 | Coventry Building Society Arena | 5-6 July 2022
At Plastics Live 2022, BioCote will be promoting its antimicrobial solutions and their use across various sectors, including healthcare, education, construction, transportation, food, home and leisure to name a few. BioCote’s Managing Director David Hall, who comes with over 20 years’ experience in the plastics industry, said: “At BioCote, we are always trying to stay ahead of the curve – this is reflected in how we operate, continuously developing our offering and service portfolio to mirror and keep tabs on what’s happening within our marketspace. When the chance to be at the vanguard of a forward-thinking event like Plastics Live arrived, we simply couldn’t let it pass us by, especially as it’s taking place in Coventry, our hometown.
“Over the last two decades, the plastics industry has remained one of the most dynamic and key sectors for BioCote. That is why we are particularly looking forward to exploring innovative antimicrobial product applications and to helping business owners uncover the true potential and benefits antimicrobial protection can deliver to their plastic products.”
Demand for antimicrobial properties of plastic products continues to climb, fuelled by greater consumer awareness of the hygiene of critical touchpoints, and the need for long-term products, not single-use options. This is reflected in a recent MarketsandMarkets report, which forecasts that the market for antimicrobial plastics will reach US$ 66.7 billion by 2026, with commodity plastics being the largest type segment and medical & healthcare being the largest application segment. Various end-use sectors including building and construction, automotive, consumer goods, and packaging are projected to benefit from the growing trend of using plastics with antimicrobial product preservation capabilities.
