Fairgrieve Compression Moulding is thrilled to have been named a winner in the regional section of the North East Business Awards for the second year in succession. They have been named winners of the ‘Made in the North East’ award for the Durham, Sunderland and South Tyneside regions.
The award recognises excellence in manufacturing and production, a dedication to improving manufacturing processes and activities contributing to the wider economy. Fairgrieves are one of 10 ‘regional winners’ announced in the awards, with each now progressing to the Grand Final in their category, which includes companies across the entire North East.
Last year, Fairgrieves won the regional heat in the ‘Small Business of the Year’ category, and then went on to take the overall North East crown. The awards are being staged for the 22nd year to honour the region’s best businesses, and the people behind them.
‘Fantastic recognition of impact’
Barry Davidson, managing director of Fairgrieves, says he is delighted with the recognition, which follows the business again being named as finalists in the national Engineering and Manufacturing Awards, in the Design Team category. “To be selected as regional winners of the Made in the North East category, and now be in with a chance of winning the overall North East award, is a fantastic accolade for us given the many fantastic businesses across our region which produce industry leading products,” he said.
“I think it is recognition for the important role we have played as a business in this region for more than 110 years, supporting the economy and local manufacturing. The business has been, and continues to be a fantastic ambassador for manufacturing in the North East – to a worldwide market.
“We introduced Bakelite plastic to the UK market back in 1918, which was a major breakthrough for the plastics manufacturing industry in this country, and we continue to develop and manufacture innovative and industry leading products today.”
One such product which has proved a huge success this year is the company’s Matrix Firewall Bracket Base, which has been proven to withstand intense heat, fire and smoke for up to two hours – and has helped a customer in the construction industry achieve an eight-fold improvement in the performance of firewalls for commercial developments. Thousands of the brackets are now in use in the construction industry.
Overall winners of the North East Business Awards, which are being staged in partnership with Sage UK, will be announced at Hardwick Hall at Sedgefield, County Durham, on October 3.
