Bright Green Plastics Welcomes 37 New Recruits
Yorkshire-based recycling firm Bright Green Plastics has created over 30 jobs at its Castleford site since the beginning of 2021. From senior management to general operatives, the new team members are in place to support the rapid growth of the business, off the back of several significant contract wins.
Bolstering the 10-strong senior management team is the firm’s new Head of Compliance, Jayne Graham. Jayne has a rich background in the energy for waste sector, having most recently occupied the role of SHEQ Manager at uPVC recycling company, Eurocell Recycle. During this time, Jayne implemented company standards when the business had been taken over by a nationwide company and achieved status of compliance with the Environment Agency.
Overseeing the implementation of updated and improved standards surrounding health, safety and the environment at Bright Green Plastics, Jayne will ensure the site complies with the environmental permit and all HSE legislation and regulations whilst improving HSE culture and behaviours within the company.
Jayne comments on her new role: “It’s great to be part of a business that actively wants to improve within the HSE areas. It certainly makes my job a little easier. Bright Green Plastics has the potential to achieve great success, and I’m excited to be playing my role in this whilst making the site an even better and safer place for all individuals to work.”
Joining Jayne on the new starter roll call is Engineering Maintenance Supervisor Andrew Davison. Andrew, who previously held roles at SUEZ Environment and Clyde Bergemann within the industrial pollution control division, will work directly for the maintenance and facilities manager to drive change and establish a fresh, customer-focused way of working, along with the day-to-day management of 12 engineers and apprentices.
Further boosting the company’s workforce as it continues to satisfy the UK’s booming demand for recycled materials in packaging and manufacturing, are two new engineers, 26 site operatives and four forklift operators, who were recruited earlier this month to carry out a variety of roles spanning material recovery, extrusion, preparation and quality control.
Having recently teamed up with the University of Liverpool, the University of Manchester and Unilever to advance technology in the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin, Bright Green Plastics is committed to ongoing improvements in recycled polymer. As such, the expanding research and development team has also welcomed an additional Formulation Technician and Material Tester, whilst the accounts department has appointed a new Accounting Manager.
Steve Spencer, Managing Director, comments: “We’ve had a fantastic start to the year and are delighted to welcome so many new faces across every department of our business. From those with high-calibre industry experience to fresh, emerging talent, we couldn’t be happier with our army of new recruits.
“The introduction of the upcoming Plastic Tax, in just over a year, is set to change the face of the industry, and its crucial investments are made to nurture the next generation of plastic reprocessors. We’ve got a very important job ahead of us.”
