Automated Production Continues at Linear Plastics

Despite extreme weather conditions wreaking havoc with the River Taff in South Wales, production continues at Linear Plastics, with two newly installed SmartPower injection moulding cells from Wittmann Battenfeld.

Manufacturers of injection mould tooling, components and assemblies, Linear Plastics, based near Pontypridd, thankfully escaped the brunt of the flooding devastation. Indeed they have been lending their talents and resources to the local recovery effort since Storm Dennis brought persistent heavy rain to the region in February 2020.

In that context, Wittmann Battenfeld says it is a pleasure to note that the manufacturing support for Linear is working well.  The newly installed SmartPower injection moulding cells at Linear are performing exactly to schedule.

We reported on the installation at the end of last year – and here is a short video showing the main features of the two new cells at work –  providing automated and energy-efficient injection moulding.

Wittmann Battenfeld’s UK Director, Daniel Williams, commented: “We are delighted to see Linear reaping the rewards of its hard work, and further investing in their SmartPower capability. We were able to offer Linear our SmartSeller price package for both these machines: Not only do we deliver at a good price point, but, unlike the competition, all our machines may have options retrofitted at any later point in time, if the customer so wishes.”

Andrew Harrison, Linear Plastics General Manager, added: “The exceptionally wide mould tool area allows us to make the very most of our two new machines, enabling them to punch far above the 120-tonne weight.

“The Wittmann robotics offering is right in line with our expectations; the R8 and B8 controls are intuitive and easy to use, and the standard Servo motor is very welcome. A small footprint and a very energy-efficient operation also adds to the benefits.

“At Linear, we continue to go forward in partnership with Wittmann Battenfeld UK. Our latest purchase not only gives us the benefit of the one-stop-shop approach, but we also gain the synergies between all pieces of equipment.”

Wittmann Battenfeld wishes the Pontypridd community and Linear Plastics every success in recovering their local infrastructure and are proud to continue to supply Linear the very best in automated equipment and services.
