Counterplas Steps Up a League

After moving from West Bromwich to a large new facility in South Staffordshire less than 12 months ago, technical plastic injection moulders, Counterplas, are enjoying record growth.

Established in West Bromwich by Paul Isherwood in 1990, Counterplas has successfully traded as a niche, technical moulder ever since. Clients span multiple sectors, including market leaders within the building and DIY industries, specialist healthcare, and global blue-chip companies such as Siemens.

Counterplas realised that they were rapidly outgrowing their facilities in West Bromwich so 2 years ago began a search for new premises which could facilitate their growth whilst also allowing them to extend their machine range to 1500 ton and beyond.

When the opportunity came to take over a 70,000 sq ft, purpose-built facility in the Midlands, it was a straight forward decision to execute their plan.

Over a 4-week period in August 2018, all production, machinery and personnel were moved to the new location and production was restarted on schedule in September.

Paul Isherwood commented:

“Having developed a reputation for providing a complete solution, from design, development and manufacturing of components, through to complex assembly work, in West Bromwich, our growth had reached its limits and a lack of space prevented us from installing larger moulding machines in response to our customer’s needs.

“Our move has allowed us to take on new customers in fresh industries and also provides new opportunities with our current customers which has been very well received”

Paul Isherwood added:

“We have increased our turnover by 50% to over £6m and we are really excited to start the  implementation of our business improvement plan which will underpin our further growth by investing at unprecedented levels in equipment, people and training and will see a renewed focus on ensuring that our plans match and support the needs of our customers”.

A key part of Counterplas’ ambitious expansion plans is their commitment to strengthening relationships with existing clients, and developing new partnerships with clients that share the vision for true open relationships that really benefit both parties.

In the near future, with the arrival of new machinery, Counterplas will start this journey and along with the increased use of recycled materials in conjunction with their customers, they aim to TRULY achieve a ‘best total cost’ production – from design to delivery.

“Having additional space has allowed us to produce much larger products. In the next 12 months, we will be working hard to attract new clients looking to manufacture such components in the UK. A key part of our plan is to invest in additional high tonnage machinery.”
