Distinguished Plastics Accolade the Horners Award Returns to Interplas 2017

One of the plastics industry’s oldest and most distinguished accolades, the Horners Award, will be presented at Interplas 2017.

The prestigious prize for innovation in plastics design will celebrate its 70th year at the UK’s leading plastics industry event, fitting in perfectly with this edition of the triennial exhibition and conference’s theme of “Innovation Happens Here”.

The Horners Award is organised jointly by the Worshipful Company of Horners and the British Plastics Federation (BPF) and is presented annually to recognise the most innovative plastic products demonstrating excellence as a well-manufactured item and potential on the commercial market.

Previous winners of the Horners Award include the pTrumpet – the world’s first all-plastic trumpet – produced by Warwick Music Group, Guardian Maritime Limited’s passive anti-piracy deterrent, and the Airbus A350 XWB Composite Rear Spar developed by GKN Aerospace.

A panel of expert judges decide the winner based on its design, commercial potential and sustainability advantages, with the scope of the award also including related machinery or processes.

The Horners Award will be presented on the Main Stage at 12.30pm on Day One of Interplas 2017, which runs from September 26th-28th at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, and will be covered by the show’s headline media partner, British Plastics and Rubber magazine.

Leanne Taylor, Interplas Conference Manager and Editor of British Plastics and Rubber, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Worshipful Company of Horners back to Interplas. Some of the industry’s most forward-thinking and innovative products have been Horners Award recipients, and the fact the winning design will once more be announced at Interplas will give the winner a fantastic platform at the UK’s leading plastics industry event.

Mike Birrell, Court Assistant, The Worshipful Company of Horners, said: “It is with great pleasure that The Horners are once again able to use Interplas as a platform to announce the 2017 Winners of the Horners Award for Plastics Innovation and Design. This annual award, in association with the BPF, recognises excellence in the UK Plastics Industry. It is hoped that our presence at Interplas will inspire others to join us to enjoy the full benefits of a Livery Company.”
