Mould Making Veteran Trains 17 Year Old Apprentice at Sprint Tool and Die
Ivor Heeley, who retired recently at the age of 83, purchased this pantograph metal engraving machine in 1952 and has been engraving moulds and dies on it ever since. He has now passed on his skills to Jack Smith, Sprint Tool and Die’s award winning apprentice.
“Sprint continue to invest in state of the art machinery, but there is still room for some traditional machines and skills”, states Ian Amos MD. “The pantograph machine allows us to add part numbers and identification on to moulds, dies and ejector pins easily and efficiently, without interrupting production.”
Jack has been attending InComm’s Shropshire Training Facility and has recently completed his second year.
Ivor was delighted to be passing on his skills to the next generation and seeing the skill set that he obtained over 65 years being adopted and appreciated by such a keen and enthusiastic young apprentice.
